A trashy blue Buzz shirt matched with military pedal
pushers and "Havana" neon blue slippers were the things
I wore as I went home for our new year celebration.

It was pretty close to something my dad would
categorized as "bum fashion" but i didn't care.

most of our threads were like a week late
for laundry pick up so the hell with choosing
the right clothes...

anyway...i was waiting for my dad in Santolan station,
grabbed an american hotdog and a bottle of coke when
I saw him.

Joel.

He was eating something as well...I smiled...he smiled back.
After munching and draining my last liter of soda...I saw him
outside the station. I signaled if he wanted some of
what i was drinking. He said yes and i made my way down.

There he was...all 3 and a half feet of him. He was 9. red shirt.
Parents already dead. He fashioned grease and soot on his face...
but he was smiling.

I gave him my coke and we talked about stuff....how he dreamt of riding
the train and a bus... "would the train fall?" he asked.
I looked up and said no....

There were these women beside us...they were looking at us funny. like
...."ewww" funny. I shrugged it off.

I started to feel happy. Social classes didn't matter at all.

Shortly after talking buses and trains, dad arrived....with his new...
MERCEDES BENZ....

and gawd were the women beside us silent...gawking and minding
their mistake.

I said Hi to my dad, waved goodbye to Joel then drove off....
I just wished I had shared more than my favorite drink and some
stories. I hope to see him again when I get home...maybe i can treat
him someplace nice....
